What is the Madaket Conservation Association?
Residents and homeowners that loved Madaket formed the Madaket Conservation Association (MCA) in 1958. The members adopted the following mission statement “The objective of the Madaket Conservation Association is to foster the preservation and improvement of the beaches, dunes, roads and waterways in the Madaket area, and to help maintain and advance the way of life presently enjoyed by the residents of Madaket and to do all things or acts necessary or incidental to the furtherance of the above purposes.”
Since 1958, other Madaket area homeowner associations have been formed. Fishers Landing (FLA), Smiths Point (SPA) and Madaket Residence Association (MRA) were formed as area specific associations, and fill an important role in addressing area issues. Over the years, some of these associations have been modified with their members input, the latest being the merging of MCA and MRA into a combined Madaket Conservation Association.
The objective of the Madaket Conservation Association is to foster the preservation and improvement of the Madaket area, and to help maintain and enhance the quality of life and the quiet enjoyment of the area for its residents and members.
The primary areas of concern are:
Health and Safety: including, but not limited to, water quality, fire control, mosquito control, septic system management, wastewater planningInfrastructure: including, but not limited to, roads & bridges, parking, utilities, zoning, public transportation, and law enforcement.
Commercial and Residential Development and Preservation: maintaining Madaket’s rural and low-density nature.
Conservation/Preservation/Access to local natural, cultural, and recreational resources: including, but not limited to, open space parcels, beaches, waterways, public waterfronts, and historical assets.
The Madaket Conservation Association shall cooperate as appropriate with other like-minded groups to further its objective and to address Madaket area concerns with the Town and County of Nantucket or other controlling entities. The Association may take a position on a community or other issue, and the Board of Directors may mobilize members on said issues when appropriate.
MCA does not view itself as a political organization nor as a neighborhood association, but rather as a community or informational organization. MCA encourages all who love Madaket to join us in support of our mission statement. Working together, we can protect and preserve what is near and dear to us all: Madaket.
